STEAMBarn Academies Announces Groundbreaking Phase for Purpose-Built Year-Round STEAM Campus in Orangeburg County

Orangeburg County, South Carolina — STEAMBarn Academies has officially entered the groundbreaking and infrastructure development phase for a new purpose-built Pre-K–8 year-round STEAM innovation campus.

Designed to serve 225+ students annually, the academy will integrate agricultural science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics within a farm-based, experiential learning model.

Project Purpose

The purpose of this project is to construct a purpose-built Pre-K–8 year-round STEAM educational campus integrating agricultural education, nutrition literacy, and workforce development in Orangeburg County.

This project addresses:

Community Need

Orangeburg County is a rural-eligible community with a significant need for expanded educational infrastructure that integrates:

  • Hands-on agricultural learning

  • Applied STEAM instruction

  • Structured year-round academic support

  • Workforce-aligned programming

Currently, no purpose-built campus in the county integrates agriculture, STEAM labs, and year-round instruction within a unified infrastructure model. This project will expand access for 225+ students annually upon stabilization.

Project Description

The proposed facility will include:

  • Dedicated STEAM innovation labs

  • Agricultural learning areas and greenhouse

  • Multipurpose indoor space

  • Outdoor courts and playgrounds

  • Transportation infrastructure
